Heavy

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 8, 2012

-

Heavy

blue, versed eyes
dip into the time of dusk,
seeming to dot
the horizon's plane
with swift iris angels-
who swim past the sky
and try to understand
the heart.

Yet it is only the mind
that is full and exhaling
tracks of oxygen,
for when the heart
takes a vigil of love,
it is light as a cloud's
cheek,
and as heavy as a newborn
who can think for
hours on end,
before spotting sleep
and letting heavy eyelids
put him through

enchantment.

I love the 'light as a clouds cheek' part. What an interesting image!

My only critique here is the use of sky twice in the first stanza. It didn't give quite an impact the second time around, where the poem really does draw on impact there. I can't think of a better term, but just a thought. :)
