Hearts On A Wave

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 10, 2012

( done for a challenge to write a poem inspired by a painting. The photo I chose was called Hearts on a Wave by Pauline McGee. )

Two hearts beating together
Riding the stormy sea
The water wild and rough
Two hearts wanting to be free
Two strong hearts
Fighting as one
There's no turning back
Once the storm has begun.
Their struggle may be hard
Their journey may be long
But these two hearts together
Forever will be strong
Two hearts on a wave
Their past not far behind
But through this stormy battle
Their true strength they will find
Two hearts clutching together
Never to depart
It's safe to feel protected
When you give someone your heart

I had to go and look this painting up. Very beautiful painting...

This whole poem is beautiful. It is different from your other writes - I have read a lot of your sad pieces :)

    'Two hearts beating together
    Riding the stormy sea
    The water wild and rough
Two hearts wanting to be free'

^ Sometimes we are all just looking for someone to love us, aren't we? Someone we can be ourselves with, but unfortunately we have to wait and search, and wait some more. Very annoying sometimes, I think. Why can't people just where a sticker that says, 'I am looking for...' I hate searching because it wastes so much time in my opinion :/ sorry for my rant. This is a beautiful beginning because it captures what everyone is searching for in life. Some of us find it, others don't.

    'Two strong hearts
    Fighting as one
    There's no turning back
    Once the storm has begun.'

^ Very beautiful imagery here. 'Fighting as one' - my favorite line of this stanza. I also like how you used the word 'storm' as well because life is a storm sometimes. Other times it is a rainy day, and still others a sunny day. Very beautiful comparison.

    'Two hearts clutching together
    Never to depart
    It's safe to feel protected
When you give someone your heart'

^ This has to be my favorite part because it is the perfect ending. I love this right here. I just wish that this was true - for some people it is, but others it is not. Usually it goes the opposite (at least from what I have heard).

I like the idea of this poem because it made something beautiful even more beautiful. I have never heard of Pauline McGee, so this painting was knew to me. Even though the painting was basically two hearts on a wave, you gave an interpretation of what you thought it was about. Very beautiful.
