Wishing

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 12, 2012

Have you ever looked in the mirror
and studied your face?
Wishing you could change your lips.
Wishing you could change your nose.

Have you ever wished away your body parts
in exchange for someone else's?
Wishing for their stomach.
Wishing for their figure.

Have you ever cursed the way you look
Been desperate for something more?
Wishing for different hair.
Wishing for different eyes.

Have you ever thought about the child
who has a disfigured face?
Wishing they could change their face.
Wishing they could just fit in.

Have you ever thought about the cancer patient
who is losing all of their hair?
Wishing to find a miracle.
Wishing to find a cure.

Have you ever thought about the hero's of war
Who have many missing limbs?
Wishing for legs to walk with.
Wishing for arms to cuddle with.

Have you ever thought about the survivor
who was rescued from a fire?
Wishing they could feel their hands.
Wishing they could move their feet.

Have you ever thought about the stranger passing by
who glances you up and down?
Wishing they didn't have so many scars.
Wishing they were as beautiful as you.

Wishing that they were you.

Yes, sometimes I wish I could be someone different in the inside, I guess stronger, just so I could accept the way I am but times takes care of it. It slowly takes care of it.

so many people want to be look different but we for some odd reason are never satisfied, and I guess we will never truly ever be.

I like the way you approached the topic and how this poem can make people stop and think, that we have everything we need. We can walk, we can breathe, we may not have the best attributes but hey we are good.

I love the message you have given in this poem. The idea that someone out there is always worse off than we are. That it could be worse. I love that.

I have to admit that I am one of those people you are talking about in the first three stanzas. That is me and those were my exact wishes.

I love what you have written here. Sometimes I do wish I thought about myself differently but I think that I just can't help it. I don't think that anyone can.

    Awesome and powerful.

This is just a heartfelt message. We all take for granted what we have sometimes. We look in the mirror and think we are the most disgusting creatures on earth, yet there are people who envy us because we have all our limbs, are able to walk, etc.

The stanza talking about the disfigured child's face... oh God... tore me up. :(

This is an amazing piece, great job!
