You have what seems as a natural way to put the complicated into a poetical package that makes the reader go 'hmmm?' and then, 'ahhhh!' *smiles*
I learned from this: A pain drenched woman who has lost her faith, certainly in men and in religion. What do lots of people do when the pain gets too much? Turn to a nullifier, a way to turn down the pain if only for a short while.
The imagery is great. A recollection of days when there was still the man. 'undone skirt hem line and 'under his weight' breath a sexual relationship, but also maybe a controlling one?
The new disciple metaphor many can relate to. Running away from someone, something is easier if you have something someone to hold you up. In the absence of family, friends, a bottle will do. At least it doesn't ask questions or prejudge. Alcohol or Prozac? I'd choose life.
Another corker.
Take care,
