Sanctuary

by Beautiful Chaos   Jul 22, 2012

Only hurts when I think
Lobotomy on the table
Just take it all
People function everyday without their brain

This could be the story of my life
Unknowing, unconscious
Erasing all of me
Freeing all of you

Embrace emotional sobriety
Flush out my intemperance
Be a stone in the mountain of humanity
Surrender my lushness

Only hurts when I think
Think about what I would be giving up
The sparkle in an eye
Warmth in a smile I create

The knowledge that I am safety
Certainty in an uncertain place
Solace for the softness we hide
That we try to deny

To control to the point of coldness
That is madness
Affection, tenderness, understanding
Everything I wish to be, when my loves need refuge from the world

For some reason, reading this poem reminded me of the film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.' Its an interesting poem, not wanting to think, wanting to bury your past. I liked the reference to a stone on the mountain of humanity: it was a good novel way to describe how each individual is a small piece of the collective. The puntuation could be revised in the poem in places I felt though, it read a little choppy in some places the way I was reading it. Overall a decent and interesting piece!
