Parchment On A Castle Wall

by Meme   Jul 23, 2012

I was veiled by my
own lingering fears,
and you; my fearless
knight, vowed to free
my eyes from looking
down at that eternal
darkness.

It was forbidden to
come close, and I could
never reach out, but I
ached for the warmth
of your touch. It was
so cold in there, us-
parted by castle walls.

A shared pen and
some old parchments
was the only way of
communication we
ever had. We drafted
a world of you and me
with every drop of ink.
.
.
.
My hands are frozen
now, while yours are
battling those fires.
This tingling air is
drowning me slowly
and I can no longer
stand on my own.

Those walls are still high
and we have exhausted
every inch of paper.
And the pen we once
shared can no longer
bleed for our desires.

Oh my love, you once
vowed to free me, but I
think I sentenced our
fates to an inescapable
doom. I plead for your
forgiveness now, and for
that heart of yours to
just love-me-not.

I was really intrigued with the title and that is what drew me so quickly to this piece. The beginning was just great. I think we all have fears and hope that our next love will rid the inhibitions from our minds. Perfect opening. I like the first three stanzas are parted from the last three. It adds a nice transition. This poem told a tale of two lovers that are kept away from one another for some reason even though they long for one another. Beautifully told.

    Be still my heart-

This poem made me feel as if the woman is so in love and yet she feels doomed from past heartbreak and I could feel the aching heart throughout this beautiful and yet sad piece.

The word usage was elegant and it made me feel a touch of old English word usage, and yet it really wasn't.... Its just the feeling I got , while reading it...several times. The ending grabbed me the most-

    "Oh my love, you once
vowed to free me, but I
    think I sentenced our
    fates to an inescapable
    doom. I plead for your
    forgiveness now, and for
    that heart of yours to
    just love-me-not."
