Sweet and Blonde Girl (Tetractys)

by Khalid M Darwish   Jul 28, 2012

Sweet
six feet
walks down street
with low heartbeat
She's a beautiful girl who's worth to meet

Blonde!
I'm fond
I'll respond
To what's beyond
her magic wand that made hearts correspond

I found it interesting that you didn't think "the" had a syllable. Every word has at least one syllable. I googled and couldn't find any information on any word being 0.

I never go by a syllable calculator because they can be inaccurate. I always done it by sounding out the word and using my fingers, lol.

Hi Hannah! Thank you. You are right that some websites give incorrect counting. But I used the website http://www.wordcalc.com
and if you use it just try to omit the word 'the' from any line and it will give the same count, whereas if you omit 'a' the situation is different because the word counter calculate it as a complete word.

Yes, I thought every syllable should be counted..

EDIT: that's interesting, I need to look into that then

I see, yeah, that one is not the best counter of syllables

I recommend you this one :

    http://www.poetrysoup.com/poetry_resources/syllable_counter.aspx

It's better than the other one, but it can also give wrong the syllable counts, but it's more accurate.
That's the one I use and I also count with my fingers for more accuracy.

    Sweet (1)
    six feet (2)
    walks in the street (4)
    with low heartbeat (4)
She's a frisky beautiful girl who's worth to meet (12)

    Blonde (1)
    Made me fond (3)
    I'll respond (3)
    To what's beyond (4)
She's the magic wand that made our hearts correspond (12)

There are some syllable counts off..

for instances "walks in the street" has 4 syllables and it should be 3 according to the form of poetry.
Also the last line should have 10 syllables but it has 12 syllables.

    She's ( 1) a(1) frisky(2) beautiful(3) girl (1) who's(1) worth (1) to (1) meet (1) =12

I came up with a poem that has the syllables counts based on your poem, I hope you don't mind me here it goes:

    Walks (1)
    six feet (2)
    down the street (3)
    with low heartbeat- (4)
a beautiful girl who is worth to meet. (10)

    Bond; (1)
    new found, (2)
    I respond (3)
    to what's beyond (4)
the magic that made our hearts correspond (10)

In fact I calculated the syllables not using my fingers but using the word and syllables calculator
      http://www.wordcalc.com
You just try to use it . It will exactly give you the right counting.
      Thank you
