A Cyclops' Teddy Bear

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 30, 2012

I look into the reflective mirror
and view what others see;
an ugly, ghastly cyclops
who no one will come near.

But I am so very different
from what appears outside.
No one seems to take a chance
to find out who I really am.

At night alone I cry in bed
and hold my teddy bear.
He never judges what he sees,
always accepting me.

He knows the person that I am
both inside and out.
I hold his hand and he holds mine
and stays all through the night.

No one could imagine
such a cowardly giant like me,
but this is me and all I am,
it's all I'll ever be.

But all these people judging me
assume I will cause fear.
Just an ugly, ghastly cyclops
who no one will come near

This one really does get to your heart. I'm very tired so this might be short haha. Couple of things. I loved first of all the simplisty of the whole poem. At least the story of it. But the character of the Cyclops is very sad. I think that's how you see yourself as a monster or something lesser than a person. The whole world seems to be after you and there is nothing you can do. When you start to have doubt in yourself that's when we see ourselves as a monster. I loved here how you seem to have a softer side as well. The teddy bear brings out the little girl in you. I can see the teddy bear being from someone special. That's why you treasure it so much. Anyway I loved the message altogether because it is very strong yet sad. Well done.
