Guts

by Yakari Gabriel   Jul 31, 2012

The first time we met,
we spoke for what seem ages,
Like we had known each other
for ages.

you said, that this had never happened
to you, that you don't trust easily,
you don't open up.

It was then, that I realized that,
either I was like you,or you were like me.
but in any case,we both have been
beaten around like empty bottles
on meaningless streets

the first time our lips met,
you closed your eyes. I know,
because I kept mine open like a
five year old mesmerized
at the size of the ocean..

you pulled back, told me to take it slow.
but I never did, we never did.
we are going through this like
amateur drivers competing across
a crowded highway,
knowing its dangerous, knowing its wrong.

Still, we rather swallow our fear,
than ever coming across as cowards.

"we spoke for what seem ages,"

This sounds wrong, I'm thinking "seemed like" or "seemed". Now seemed doesn't even feel like a word, but it is, haha!

I love the feel of this poem, the daring openness and vulnerability. My favorite part was definitely the bit about keeping your eyes open, mesmerized. Such a beautiful image!
