Flying... [Number 1]

by Hollow Face   Aug 2, 2012

Have you ever had the moment when everything is perfect?
When you were on cloud nine and you felt unreachable?
Then something comes
and knocks you down.

You know that you should get up
Try again.
But then boom!
Your kicked down again.

Don't give up right?
That's what everyone says.
But why try again?
Your only going to be knocked down.

Just lay there on the ground
waiting for time to pass by.
You wonder how you got so high.
Why would someone hit you?
Don't they care?

Sometimes, just sometimes
they don't.

Take my Wheel

I flop myself on my bed.
Wondering how my life got to this point.
High school.

It's not hard.
This would be my third year. Junior finally.
But when you mess everything up
and even your friends hate you.
You start to wonder.

Mr. Fluff jumps up next to me.
His black and white fur shoved in my face.
Of course I have friends.
How could I forget?
Mr. Fluff loves me. The fattest cat I know.

"Sarah! Get up here now!"
Kelly screamed at the top of the stairs.

I roll myself out of bed.
Throwing my hood up and climbing the stairs.
You know the evil step mother in Cinderella?
Her ugly face and evil ways?
That's Kelly.

I lean myself on the frame of the door,
"What Kelly?"
Her sour face glared at me.
My dad sat on the couch, not giving a d*mn.

She threw her finger at me,
"I thought we told you no lying.
Yet you insist on being like your mother."
I clenched my jaw.

No one talked about my mom like that.
Last time Kelly did...
Things happened and I was grounded for a year.
I looked down,

"Kelly, stop talking about my mom like that."
Maybe she isn't the best mom out there.
But she's the one I got.
I'm proud of her.

Kelly snorted, "I can talk about her all I want.
She isn't here to stop me."

Seriously, it's like Kelly was just trying to make me mad.
"What do you want?" I snap.
Only if I had a car...

Kelly narrowed her eyes, "Why didn't you tell me Sammy was
with your dad?"
Wow. I threw my hands in the air.
Of course it's all about Sammy.

The greedest and spoiled 9 year old ever.
I barely considered either of them family.
"I thought you knew."

Kelly snorted, "Well I didn't!"
Here's the usually part where I tuned her out.
She rambles about everything I do wrong.
Gives me a punishment.
Dad agrees and I walk away.

But this time, I couldn't handle her.
There's a point where even the strongest break.
Where the unsinkable dive head first.
And where the most patient snap.

I walked past them both.
Slamming the back door as I walked away.
I knew how to drive.
Illegally.
Just two wires and the truck started.

I put my foot hard on the gas.
Watching my fathers face turned red.
Whatever.
He doesn't care about me.
I don't care about his truck.

I headed away from town.
Spitting dirt from the tires.
Tears slipped from my eyes and I banged on the wheel.
Why? Just why?

I know I'm not perfect.
No one is.
But don't I deserve a chance?
A chance to make things right.

Past 60.
Then 70.
The trees were just blurry figures.
I was flying.

Something ran out in the road.
The brakes were to slow.
I turned it to dodge the thing.
The wheels slid and the truck flipped.

I remembered the song,
Jesus take the Wheel.
They played it at my brother's funeral.
Jesus, you can take my wheel now.
