Liquefaction

by Chelsey   Aug 8, 2012

It's a pretty adamant statement to say,
I am not a coffee drinker, nor ever will be
Yet, I know exactly what it's like to be
the cup, the coffee, and the ice cube

I know what you're thinking...
Your head is turned to the side
as you ponder where poetry can go with this

I am the cup.
You nuzzle me in your hands, draw near
to lips that crave the senses, that fall upon yours
As warmth kindles this body that surrounds my soul

I am the coffee.
Guzzled down your throat and meeting
butterflies in the bottom of your stomach
As we both provide your dose of caffeine

Most importantly...

I am the ice cube.
Melting at the very thought of you.
Bathed in the steam of your speeches
Liquefying as you render up your emotions

Honestly,
I love originating your mornings

Coffee is such a wonderful Metaphor to write about, and I really adore the way this author created this piece. The beginning of this poem expresses her dislike for coffee, but then she adds the way this person makes her feeling and wraps her emotions within coffee itself...

    "I am the coffee.
Guzzled down your throat and meeting
butterflies in the bottom of your stomach
As we both provide your dose of caffeine"

The creativity of this piece really made me speechless... Love this stanza!

I enjoyed this piece from start to finish! Well Done Chelsey

What i love the most about what i'm seeing here is the originality of your thoughts
you basically made a very creative poem from 3 items, Coffey, ice cube and cup, and not alot of people can do that. So i truly aplude you

I've been loving your new pieces, Chelsey. This is so creative. I've always written about coffee, in the point of view of coffee, I've even wrote an ode to coffee O.o

But this is just perfect and original. I love every bit of it. Nominated and going to my favorites for sure. Please keep it up!
