The Junkie

by Khalid M Darwish   Aug 9, 2012

He lies when he speaks,
even if he's just joking.
This forces people not to believe him any longer,
even if he's right.

He breaks when he promises.
By this quality he becomes untrusted
and therefore loses his closest friends

Renege on Covenant.
This quality removes all atoms of trust,
even in his family,
whereby no one can give him any covenant

Betrays when trusted.
This makes people think
that all things he has are not his
but came with illegality
according to his curriculum vitae
simply because he can commits
debauchery in rivalry

^^ Kind of the 'boy who cried wolf' content here. It's true that when one persistently lies they become unblievable. Drugs tend to have this affect on people unfortunately.

^^ Promises are meant to be kept. We learn this as children. However, when we grow older we tend to forget this. Being under the influence of drugs would certainly not help. Promises mean nothing to them, especially when another hit is available or has just been consumed.

^^Family is the last place where anyone can find love and trust. So this is truly sad.

^^ "simply because he can" the mentality of a man who needs help, but with everyone around him abandoning him for multiple reasons, this will be hard to obtain.

This is a truly amazing write. Someone lost to drugs is someone who needs help, but rather is often shunned because of their persistent negative behaviours.

Once the addiction has taken over
more likely there is no return.
People do whatever it takes to satisfy
their addiction, having no remorse about
what they are doing and how many are
    getting hurt in the process.
    awesome write

This seemed very different to your other poems I have read. i liked it because you described the life of a drug addict well and how they are viewed and mistrusted by those around them, aslo how it affects those people around them too.

another thought I had of this is how similar this life is for someone dependant on alcohol, they have the same bad habbits and betray and lie in the same way and often do not even know they are doing it but it causes the same affect ont heir relationships and often ends up them being alone.

Great work, one of my best from you actually.
