Easy To Fall In Love With

by Maria   Aug 17, 2012

They met in the most awkward of all awkward places,
the connection was so strong he couldn't help but stare,
at her face-oh how amazing she looked.
Her skin was such a unique colour, it was almost breathtaking
and her big blue eyes looked right into his forgotten soul.
Her arms were moving so slowly, so small and so delicate
how could he look away when he knew she'd been looking?

God, destiny, faith, the universe brought them together
so it's meant to be for sure, there's no doubt.
Two beautiful people sharing beautiful moments,
making memories they want to always remember.
He knew what he was getting himself into
and she had warned him a million times before.
''I don't fall in love so easy'' she once said
right before he leaned in for the first kiss.

He was determined to make her his
and call her his girl for as long as she wanted,
but she was indeed a difficult person to be with.
''I shouldn't give up on what I love the most''
he thought and convinced himself she was worth it.

This man gave her a ring and promised her eternity
but she only looked at him disappointed
and said promises mean nothing anymore.
He bought her a dozen red roses on her birthday
but she pointed out everything beautiful eventually dies.

Not losing hope, he built her a castle upon sand
and cowardly dreamed of their own private world
but she crushed his dreams laughing at the castle.

''I told you, I'm not easy to fall in love with.''
She said as if she was trying to deprive him of hope.
''I've noticed but I'm not giving up on you'' he replied.

He offers her his shallow world, that no one has entered before
but she thinks too little of it since hers is glowing.
He gives her all the unknown stars and the whole sky
but she throws it all away in a heartbeat as if they meant nothing.

He carves her forbidden name across his chest
to prove his immeasurable love for her is more than true.
He forms the light where darkness used to be,
when she's afraid, covers her eyes so she doesn't have to see.

''I told you I'm not easy to fall in love with.''
She keeps saying as if she wants to get rid of him.
''I'm doing my best but it will never be enough for you''
he says in a low voice and stares at the dirty rotten flowers.

''You're the princess of my dreams, the child swinging in the park,
but you're also the demon who's always crawling in the dark.
You're the wide smiles I wear every day, trying to stay strong,
the best poem I've ever written but also the most depressing song.

''I've told you I'm not easy to fall in love with a million times
and look at you, you're still sitting by my side, you didn't end it
I pushed you away, broke your little heart that was my new possession,
but you took care of my scarred heart instead and tried to mend it.

You treated me like a queen when I least deserved it.
You saw the good that was in me when it was invisible.
You stayed when I did everything to push you away.
You loved me when I did my best so that you'd resent me.

Every morning, I'd wake up afraid you wouldn't be there
but in my suprise, no matter what I had said, you always were.
Every night, I'd go to sleep worrying you'd leave at midnight
but you'd always remember to sweetly kiss me goodnight.

I want you to know I've been keeping the ring in a safe place
and I've been carrying with me one of those roses I told you to replace.
You didn't need to deny your life to make me understand
and I don't need a castle built for me as long as you hold my hand.''

Slower it goes, longer it stays. Longer it stays, wider it grows. Whom one loves, it's hard to let go.
