I called you a legend upon Fall,
how you trumpeted against frost
and promenaded through sky-
the griffin to my sight
that would helm this light
I ne'er received...
before you
guarded
flames.

Your feathered breast lightens my tremors
as I enfold under your strength
with wings of a guardian-
sights hurtle past such gait
and I find no crown
can inscribe worth
without you.
I am
found.

    MaryAnne,

It was a real pleasure writing against you for this challenge. You know I said to Britt afterwards damn why didn't I think to write in the form of a nonet. I always complain I hate rhyme and yet I picked a form that rhymed, how ironic.

I like all the natural elements in this poem, fall, frost, sky, flames: these were all beautiful. The Griffin is a lovely creature in mythology; I am wondering why you chose it? Does it have some sort of symbolism meaning for you or was it that you just had to pick a creature and went with this.

I loved how you incorporated the light/lightens and sight/sights. I didn't even notice the almost repetitions in the poem. "how you trumpeted against frost" this was possibly my favourite line, the use of the word 'trumpeted' is really powerful. When I first read this I was like wait why is it placed In the love section (I completely forgot we had to write a love poem) and then I realized that this was one large metaphor for describing a lover. Beautiful work MaryAnne!
