Parkinson Disease (Acrostic)

by Maple Tree   Sep 3, 2012

Pickering is our label given
As if our surnames mark our
Respectful heritage.
Kin from the past glorify us
Inked within history as survivors
Nevertheless, we are branded because of our
Skin, the color of a native sings
On every tombstone with our last
Name.

Dad- we also have an
Illness that marks our
Soul, and I'm truly saddened.
Eternally grateful for my breath
And I do not blame our family for
Snagging such a crippling ailment that
Emotionally destroys our body and minds forever.

Dedicated to the millions of people who suffer from this disease.

Special Dedication: For my Father, Mother, Both Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers who also suffer and suffered this crippling illness, and me.

Andrea...I keep reading this over and over trying to connect the first verse to the second but....I'm really not sure I'll give it justice....I'm sure I'm missing something very important here so...please pm me if you wish. I'll comment on the second verse first because I know a little about this disease...well no....that's wrong...I don't really KNOW just....my neighbour suffered from it and...although he wasn't too bad it was still horrible to watch him try to control it. Secondly....Mohammed Ali at the olympic opening ceremony...what a damn shame to see such a fine athlete succumb to such a really horrible form.

This one has me baffled...Pickering?...well I've never heard of it in relation to Parkinson's so...is it some sort of trible name?..A name given to your forefathers because....Bigfoot..something wasn't classed as suitable? As I said...not sure...just what came to mind after the first read and...after the 10th...I just couldn't shake it off....sorry if it's totally wrong :)

I felt truly frustrated at the end. I know how this disease works, its severity, and effect on the patient.

I loved this poem very much because your portrayed well the issue.
