I'll be your midnight

by Chelsey   Sep 4, 2012

Like dusk coating the setting sun,
I will envelope your days work
and provide rest unto your weary limbs.
For I will be your midnight, catering to
the horizon you wish to abruptly descend.

Darling, do not fret after a dreadful A.M,
the Earth naturally rotates to a silent sky
that I automatically become one with.
Birds will not chirp, and rays will not beam
upon your blistery shoulder blades.

My pupils will become as ebony as the galaxy.
Providing the darkest back drop for twinkling stars
that wish to dazzle the sight in your eyes.
You will find that space will travel an
endless distance, which is where my love resides.

You have been my sunrise daily, gracing me
with coral clouds that only appear for a Queen.
In return to you, I will be your midnight.
Blacking out reality, and supplying you
with peaceful relaxation, that only a King deserves.

I think the conceit, or extended metaphor, of this poem as a whole intrigues me. Darkness, traditionally used in a negative way in poetry and prose, is used as a calming, comforting, influence and to me the speaker aims to provide an opportunity for her lover to shine. It's submissive, but in a very tender, sweet way.
I enjoyed considering this endearing poem.

What an amazing stanza to start this piece off with, already expressing your care for the person this is written for.

Overall I simply love it, this is an awesome poem. Great job. :)

I'm not a fan of love poems here, but this is without any doubt an exquisite piece :)

"Darling, do not fret after a dreadful A.M,
the Earth naturally rotates to a silent sky
that I automatically become one with."
^How did you write these lines? I'm so envious, haha!

Love always seems infinite when you compare it to galaxies, skies, stars and the night. Both sides together make an immense power in poetry. Besides, poetry alone is infinite, let alone with the universe =)

A lovely piece of art Chels,
    Shine on~
