I Can But I Won't

by You Can Speak But I Can Rhyme   Sep 5, 2012

Why do I love when they don't?
Why do I expect when they don't?
Why do I share when they don't?
Why do I miss them when they don't?
Why do I worry when they don't?
Why do I care when they don't?

I gave hope, when they wouldn't
I gave them comfort, when they couldn't
I gave them a reason to smile, when they wouldn't
I gave everything, when they couldn't

All I needed was a friend, they deserted
Left me alone in time of need, they vanished
No comfort, no shoulder, they disappeared
Pain and tears in my eyes, they appeared

They want me to love, now I don't
They expect me to be there, now I won't
They wish that I share, now I don't
They wonder if I miss, now I won't
They think that I worry, now I don't
They think I care, now I won't

Life full of sympathy, friends are fake;
Lies abide with darkness, for its own goodness sake;
A dark hole, in a gloomy world;
A life full of hatred, everything is blurred...

The luxury of loneliness;
The plight of my conscious;
All seems a heaven from down here;
Betrayed by friends, as all fail to hear...
