A Forbidden Love

by LostWords   Sep 11, 2012

This broken mess held together
With the one strand you pulled away
Deafened by the same noise

How much pain can my body take
I can't live without my life
But you can have this heart to break

Beyond my struggled hurt thinking
There's so much chaos in the room
I hear nothing but you breathing

Something inside me still wants to know
All that I want and all that I have
You are wanting me to let go

I love how stanza 1 has so many conflicting messages, deafened and noise, broken and held together, the use of only '1 strand' but the suggestion of an almighty strength.

    stanza 2
I can't live without my life is almost too obvious a statement, but your suggestion is you do not want this life to change, how could you possibly go on.

    stanza 3
I like the suggestion of hurt being able to think, and the argument of chaos in the room coupled with the suggestion that you only hear the breathing is sublime, a real suggestion of tunnel vision and blocking out all that is around.

    Stanza 4
the confused messages finishes this whole thing off to perfection.

This won the ravens havens contest because it is simplicity complicated, so much going on in so few lines.

Well done, and thank you for justifying my belief in your abilities as a writer.

This will be nominated once I have my vote.

I think this is a beautiful poem and very touching. Its sweet sorrow to love someone, but know you have to let them go...I feel you captured this very well.
