Night Beast

by Jake Drake   Sep 12, 2012

A man may be good and kind
And always do what's right
But into wolfen kind he'll turn
When the moon is full and bright

This nighttime terror is very real
The beast within becomes unleashed
The animal hate soon gains control
And the monster is now released

His fangs grow long, his claws grow sharp
His features coat with hair
His body stretches, grows grotesque
His useless clothes begin to tear

His muzzle grows, His tail appears
His eyes glow gold and bright
Then off he runs, his mind undone
To terrorize the night

He smells the air, so thick with scents
His golden eyes search the ground
He spies the signs of his prey
And sprints off towards the town

The adults sleep, the children fear
They all heard the unearthly howl
The children know, the adults scoff
The beast is on the prowl

A child cries, he saw the creature
Passing by his window
A father groans, and goes outside
His belief died long ago

The monster waits, He knows his prey
Just a few steps more
He calmly waits to use his teeth
And taste the blood and gore

The man suddenly stops, was that a growl?
No, just his mind playing tricks again
He continues onward, terrified
As his body erupts in pain

Delicious pain! The sweet sweet blood!
Biting! Slashing! Rending!
Tearing flesh and snapping bones!
The ecstasy unending!

He bites the neck, then twists and SNAP
He feels the struggle die
He takes his prize back to his den
And howls his triumph to the sky

A monster lurks within us all
Fighting for escape
But should we control the creature's urges
Or just accept our fate?
