The Night Sky

by XxLastHopexX   Sep 13, 2012

You held me in your arms,
My warmth beneath your hands,
As we watched the stars.

Shining brilliantly,
A collage of specks,
In various hues of blues and silvers...

Full of promise,
Full of hope...
Or so it seems....

As we starred,
you closed your eyes
And made a wish,
As anyone else would do...

As all the foolish do...
For the stars we looked at,
The same you wished on,
Are remains of the past.

Huge flaming balls,
Long ago exploded,
Long ago dead.

Suddenly the beauty of the night
Mixes with the illusions of the sky,
And tears spring to my eyes.

For as we stare into the night sky,
Me swallowed in your embrace,
I haven't the heart to tell you
That I, too, am like the stars.
That the warmth of my skin,
Is but the remains of
The cold ruin that took the place of my heart.

I haven't the courage to tell you,
That like the stars in the sky,
My heart has long ago died.

Good poem I like your choice of words, and within each line you can feel the emotions and pain that is being express. I find this poem to be sad but touching as well. I like that you use the stars because they're one of the most beautiful creation and to think of them without their brilliant lights is heartbreaking. Nice write
