The Gift

by Jake Drake   Sep 18, 2012

You were my life those years ago, when I first met you
And then became my hope, my light, first love is naught but true
You gave me little, but still I loved, knowing love's never too soon
I needed nothing. Nothing but you. My life was night, and you my shining moon.

I gave you all, you were pleased to take, all that I had to share
Until what I had was not enough, then the ties began to tear
And so love went the way of morning mists, and faded to the winds
Then in it's void, a new thought rose, for passion never ends

Where love onced reigned, with silver beams of moonlight, cascading cross the ground
Now anger rules, with firey hate, waking the soul with passion's vengeful sound
Yet from those flames arose a gift, a talent, never before known to be
And anger flowed from white hot rage, and turned to creativity

From breaking ties and love's first loss, the soul emerged now pure
And from the lips, and finger tips, now words flow strong and sure
The anger fades, giving way to reason, but never to remorse
Life calms the hate, enough to thank you for setting my life's course

Oh my gosh Jake! Im so glad you joined our club or I would have never came across this poem.

You gave me little, but still I loved, knowing love's never too soon

^ Loved this line, I think this is true, yet also scary...sometimes someone can give too much to one person who isnt ready to accept it, which can then lead to sadness, but then again you never know if it can lead to something more blissful unless you try and give your all..

And so love went the way of morning mists, and faded to the winds

^^ HOLY CRAP...that was beauty at its finest...excfellent metaphor I just fell in love with that and thats literally what I pictured, mist blowing into the wind...loved loved loved.

I really just loved the message to this piece, losing love is difficult, its hard, its painful, it pisses people off at times, but sometimes it can be helpful, makes you learn mistakes and learn lessons and it does help set your lifes course....

    Lovely write my friend :)
