The Encounter with the Capturer

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Sep 30, 2012

There he is walking down fifth avenue
Yes, him, the one with the eyes of cobalt blue
He wears his favorite monochrome plaid shirt,
With his jeans still tearing apart
He was the first one to ever capture my heart

He's holding the hand of a small child,
She has thick glasses, and her ginger hair is wild
Her ivory skin matches his,
And when he looks down at her
He has that smile on his face that I remember

I skip hastily across the street
Giving myself strength to say hello
Hoping he'd remember my face,
Or maybe even remember what we had
Since we have departed so long ago

Before I could even reach the door
It was opening wide once more
And out came his adorable daughter
Her father behind her, a couple inches apart
The same man who had captured my heart

His eyes follow my shaking fear
For, I still get the tingles when he's near
And just like that, in a haunting thought
The same smile that used to choke me
Reminded me that it was the same, that broke me

I stand awkwardly as his smile fades
And his little girl's curiosity sways
I turn away quickly, without saying hi
How could I have foolishingly forgotten
That my heart has just, said goodbye

Tears began streaming on fifth avenue
I jolt past the growing crowds, as I always do
I wipe away the droplets of sadness
Though, my heart still breaks apart
From the encounter of the man, who broke my heart
