Lily of the Nile

by lisa marie   Oct 12, 2012

As the leaves begin fall,
The blurred cold air distorts what I recall.

Once again I've lost, my ability to speak...
To my mind, and to my soul.
The person I forever seek,
Slowly burns in black coal.

Over and Over, a thoughtless obsession.
Deep in my roots, a toxic oppression.

The cold winter air circulates life and death,
A lifetime of memories freezes with every breath.
Inhale and exhale the sorrow that lingers.
All of the warmth, within our interlaced fingers.

The sadness within my eyes will always hang around,
Though my melancholy soul will never be found.
Because forever kept behind this smile,
Lives a hopeful child, a lily of the Nile.

Really nice poem. You did good with the rhyming thing here. Keeps the poem singing and pleasant to read, specially out loud. Great, really great.
