Lillies of the Nile

by Karla   Oct 29, 2012

Lillies of the Nile I answered,
eating dulce de leche as we sat together on the roof,
investigating the stars singing Clair de Lune
and whispering to each other.

He touched my woolen sweater,
bringing me to life and death as if
we could change the color of our skins,
our perfect shaped tears.
but it was a white night when we lost
the pleasures of being just ourselves.

I used to be sunny.
Can't find where I lost my sunburned hope.
Where are we?
Are you listening to me?

Let the past open the eyes of this dead woman.

This poem gave me shivers... because the elegance of it was so enchanting and yet at the end I was crying. When a poem can do that, move you to tears, its magical in it's own right. Karla took me to the rooftop with her feelings. She crafted a lost love poem filled with enchanting imagery and beauty.
The ending was breathtaking! Sometimes, the past memories can make a "dead woman" re-treat back to the moments she held so dear.. I'm in awe with this piece.. just beautiful!!
