Leap of Faith

by Mr Universe   Nov 14, 2012

My dreams are my torment.
Would I, could I be strong enough to try,
I might take wing and find that intangible ideal of the life I never lived.
But I look at my arms and see no feathers, so I stay put.

I find solace in my musings
Phantasms perform most elaborate fantasies.
In my alley, in my hole
I can live my perfect life
The winds always fill my wings
I don't even flap.

But always, I return to the cliff
And always, I refuse to jump.
The coward will dream of courage.

Another very wise and mature poem, I can relate to it, we all live so vicariously!

Why thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the read and the nice words. This was one of those writes that just flowed onto the page. Living in fear of failure is really the definition of cowardice. Thanks again!

I love how the second line has you questioning yourself, then you contrast it, then dive straight back in. It is a major switch of emotions, and, the reader's feel it. Also, drawing a connection between flying and the cliff. I mean, the whole poem is brilliant. It really is. Paralleling dreams and being a coward. . . it's fantastic A flightless coward. You get that from the story. Yet it is so easy to relate to because were all like that. beautiful piece, I'm nominating it.
