Of Love and Of War

by Mr Universe   Nov 16, 2012

If you will for a moment
Indulge me once more
I'll tell you a story
About love and war

I first met her there
On top of the steps
But soon I would leave
My only regret

Just for a moment
Our laughter did last
But the draft came a-callin
And calling en masse

They sent me away
And "fixed" me to fit
The soldier they wanted
The standards befit

I will not speak
of the horrors I saw
In the fit of war
I glimpsed Hades' maw

But when I returned
My dearest love
Who gave me good reason
For the deeds I have done

Who kept me alive
In that far off place
I lived for the day
Of our rejoining embrace

But when that time came
I found you alone
Deep in the sheets
Of my own throne

Tossing and turning
With another bastard
So, I'll stare this barrel down
And get a little more plastered

Wow. So blunt, I love it. Rhyming was excellent and this is a sad, all too true story that happens too often. Great job! :)

Ohhhh this poem pisses me off to no end.....

No not the poem, I should say the story...this happens all the time, the spouses of service men and women are so focused on getting pleasure, they can't wait for their spouse to return, and ruin a marriage/family. Totally ridiculous. No loyalty anymore.

Lovely piece. Very blunt, flowed freely. :)
