My Soul

by Mitchell Savage   Nov 19, 2012

You brought me back
from the very edge
of the death of my spirit,

my soul,

infused me with loving kindness
unknown to me.
This foreign sun

shining

into untouched shadows
filled with the preemptive venom
of a thousand disappointments,
a thousand merciless betrayals
and you strode into the midst of this pit
of defensiveness and resignation
utterly unafraid
as if my sorrow were your garden
and charmed the vipers
into submission,
surrender,
transformed
by your gentle mercy
into trees
bearing fruit and honey.
You are my sustenance,
my covenant,

my soul.

I've missed you so.
