2 years too long, Grandma

by Jack Nightengale   Nov 30, 2012

Its sad to think about,
But it happened no doubt.
All the pain you withstood,
Even with practice I never would.

From every word you ever said,
Until the day you finally rested your head.
You were immortal to me,
In the nieghborhood you were the OG.

You kept the family close when you were here,
Not a tear was dropped when you were near.
It's been two years since you went away,
But all your lessons are here to stay.

You changed my life more than you know,
It's because of you that I could grow.
I was deploying to Afghanistan when I got the news,
I know your favorite music so on that day I listened to the blues.

I didn't get to see you before you went,
But the times we shared were well spent.
From partying and playing cards,
An ice cold beer was always our rewards.

These are things I never got to say,
Because I wasn't there when you went away.
You were always there for me through thick and thin,
I really wish that I was there for you in the end.

The family is fine even with the pain,
I'm trying my hardest to be the new chain.
Don't you worry now the rest you deserve,
Just hold a spot for me, just keep it on reserve.

Farewell Grandma, in this life and the next we'll never part,
Because your memories live on, and your love is in my heart.
