My friends, my independence day

by Khalid M Darwish   Dec 4, 2012

Why should I creep blindly
behind a world of nonsense?
where, I'm totally lost between
believers and non-believers

I was born as a white page
that was thereafter blackened
by so many devils' points
trying to draw my dark future

Now, rolling on my cheeks
are those thick polluted tears
as remnants of a long struggle
for survival in this lost world

I've learnt through my hard life
That I'd be left with nothing
and no one but my dearest people
with whom I share my suffering

Those people wiped my tears
leaving me a real example
of real brothers and defenders
on whom I should depend

Those friends made me feel
that before their friendship
I was totally invaded or colonized
Now, I'm in my independence day

The poem is fantastic and so are the thoughts behind it.. I love the metaphors here making this a meaningful write. I love the word usage and the imageries created with every verse is saddening but gives a ray of hope at the end. And the flow is perfect!

I was born as a white page
    that was thereafter blackened
    by so many devils' points
trying to draw my dark future

We all have a fresh start which is colored by the thoughts of people who try painting our lives, but if those think ill of us, they paint our thoughts and life with ill and evil hues. I love the way you wrote this verse.

    Now, rolling on my cheeks
    are those thick polluted tears
as remnants of a long struggle
for survival in this lost world

Oh.... !! Most touching lines for me. A person who has struggled in all phases of life can understand this and I do relate to it. Yes, so true that when we have conquered a thing and look back, we realize how we have been downcasted by bad but still we kept struggling for our dreams... I love the imagery you create here.

I've learnt through my hard life
That I'd be left with nothing
and no one but my dearest people
with whom I share my suffering

True enough! Life will only value those who have been by us to live up the ladder of circumstances and those are people who we find reliable throughout life. Nice stanza.

    Those friends made me feel
    that before their friendship
I was totally invaded or colonized
Now, I'm in my independence day

    The ending is superb!
To have friends who are with you in need is a blessing indeed. Not all are bestowed this. And to have them makes us realize that we have achieved freedom in the sense they let us explore and live our dreams. I like the definition of freedom here for you because I found it unique and creative.
    This is an Excellent piece.
    Keep writing(:
