Numb Heart ( acrostic )

by Baby Rainbow   Dec 5, 2012

Numbness spreads across my brittle bones,
Under my pale skin and into my broken heart.
My emotions turn into rusted steel
Becoming nothing but a cold emptiness.

Hiding behind the mask I paint for
Everyone else's skimming eyes to see
As they don't look through the paint.
Rusting away like an old steel boat, sailing
Towards the numbest depths of the sea.

I've grown rather fond of acrostics, especially yours.

First stanza: Adding brittle bones and pale skin gives it fantastic imagery. It shows that you are weakened by your broken heart. You feel nothing anymore, the coldness that has overcome what was once warm. It's sad but that happens quite often...and a lot of the time we turn numb just so we don't feel anymore. We are too tired of feeling.

Second stanza: When you are heart broken, you put through a fake front. You wear a mask... you have to do it to be able to get through the day without having a breakdown. People watch you to see if you are going to break, they think you are fine due to you faking a smile, acting alright... but yet they don't look deep enough to see you aren't okay inside.

I love the metaphor with the boat rusting... very unique.
