City Life that Drains the Mortal Soul

by Brandon N   Dec 10, 2012

Looking out of a still-painted window,
watching prarie dogs play with squeaky toys.
Thinking back when life wasn't so fast-paced,
Remembering the silence instead of the noise...

City life drains us, takes us away from our mortal souls
Shoves into equity, credit scores and debt-free wishing..
Oh, the simple life was easier than the city life that drains my mortal soul.

Remember when we were kids, running wild and pretending.. we were wizards.
And if I had a nickle, for every scrape I got on the knee.. chasing lizards..

And stealing your sisters Barbie Dolls.. just to see what they were made of...
if you know what I mean... probably wasn't the best thing...

Now the city life has a hold of me, no going back to the place that I was free
Responsibility, job titles follow me, fax machines, policies, and coverage for the family..
Gotta have vision plans.. medicare and dental... life isn't a rental... maybe I'm mental...

Do you think Adam and Eve... would have been forced to believe... in insurance?
Was there an Aflak duck... was there a geico lizard thing...

Oh it's traffic distractions... and theme park attractions.. and Hannah Montana on tv
Buying christmas presents.. ipods are pleasant.. and for three ninety nine I bet your
baby girl loves you... at least for this week... you've earned a kiss on the cheek..

Maybe it's the city life that drains our mortal souls...
