The catterpillar

by Hannah   Dec 16, 2012

Inch through life

A creature

below notice

Below standards

And Below beauty

Just to survive

We grapple

We hide

We climb

We exist

Ultimately

Our world goes black

The gentle white cotton

Blinds, binds, and mutes

The outside universe

Now it's only us

And our cuddly darkness

' It must be over '

This life of survival

For why else would

There be comforting darkness

A delightful abyss

Then the cotton falls to pieces

Blinding beams shoot into my world

Will the light blind me?

Was I blind before?

The rainbow binds my world now

The abyss was finite

And I'm not as I knew

I'm a beauty

I have wings

I'm meant to fly

So me, this wonderful me

So new

So True

As I fly

Toward sky so blue

No cotton walls to contain

No comfort to falsify

Only freedom not denied

I'm a senseless, defenceless

Invincible, individual

Butterfly
