Sincere Friends [String Tankas]

by Khalid M Darwish   Dec 17, 2012

Shake your mind for friends
You may find no one but me
The rest can't stay in
For one who looks for real friends
As though catching winds in hands

That's applicable
for wives dealing with husbands
who seem suspicious,
saying "A trust in husbands
a trust in water in sieve"

In Poems and Quotes
you never know your real friends
except those dear ones
who do appear in crisis
Those can be weighed in pure gold

Among all whom I know
Some pretend to be good friends
but whenever asked
for help in critical days
dissolve like salt in water

Each tanka is 5/7/5/7/7

^Ain't that the truth, what a powerful metaphor!

I really enjoyed this poem, could you explain the structure of a string tanka, though?

Awww wow what an amazing poem! I really enjoyed it! I love the theme in this poem.. because friendship is so important, especially here on P&Q... and of course I love the reference to P&Q! <3 I love how you described true friends.. I completely agree... and you don't necessarily have to see someone everyday to know he/she is a true friend.

    Love it! Great job :)
