Nothing

by TSI25   Dec 20, 2012

We were to be the future.
To jettison sweet memories
of yesteryear, for the sake
of our
posterity.

But there is no sweetness in the silence
Of a billion chilling hearts
beating nevermore.
Now,

Dust swirls in the darkness, dancing
In the bitter wind, once rich
With daffodils.

The river twisted, withered away,
dry as the bones that litter
once busy public
thoroughfares,
whence life had long abandoned.

And the icy blue forget-me-nots,
now shriveled, brown, and dead
pose a single painful question
to the unrelenting silence -

Who will remember us, and all that we have done?
Or are we now just silent corpses, fading into dust,
Only now that we've accomplished nothing?

Nice word choice that fit altogether in each stanza. Ending the poem with a question like "Who will remember us..." makes this poem unique in style. Thank you for sharing that with us.

I really enjoyed this poem, I thought you done well for the challenge and congrats.

Your wording creates such vivid images and metaphors here that I can clearly see in my head and they jump out so powerfully through out the poem, well done.
