Goodnight- End of the World

by Maple Tree   Dec 21, 2012

Sat upon a bridge,
twenty minutes to
midnight crossing.

Dangled toes in
frosty air as
twinkling lights
created their
own silent night.

All I can do is
reflect on years
of nothings and
somethings,
laughing softly
to the secrets
I hid in a rock
on the covered
bridge of Shawnee.

End of the world
is about to close,
cigarette burning
on my left, fire cracker
to my right- explosive
seductress, ready to
exit.

Soft Confetti rain
silently falls,
kissing earth
with a touch
of me, and you.

Goodnight~

I've been looking for my fav stanza but at the end I find all are favorite for me. This miscellaneous poem left words carved in my memory. I loved the fact of hiding secrets in a rock. good idea, haha. One have to break all the rocks to discover them.

    Excellent write

Nice. A calming, relaxing way to leave the world....or for the world to leave us...
    Good read and well written.

    When I read this piece,
I knew it was the pen of the great tree :)

    The imagery is both sad,
    yet honourable...

I had a modern day twist in my head...

your scene of a bridge, a heartbroken soul waiting for the hand of death to strike... And you with the tools to shortly follow... Very sad

But I also had flashes of Romeo and Juliet in my mind...
Which made me smile. The lengths we go to, to remain with the one heart that completes us...
    The ultimate love story... Honourable

Even your deep dark writes have elegance missy,

This piece was really interesting, I wouldn't let myself get carried away with all that hype about the world ending - we're still here.
But I suppose it happening with the one you love is the best way for it to happen...

    Nicely penned piece
