I Came As Quickly As I Heard

by Andrew Packard   Jan 8, 2013

"I Came As Quickly As I Heard"

I came as quickly as I heard,

The news shattered through me just like a bomb.

I flew to your side like a bird,

On the phone your voice sounded so calm.

I threw it in park as I arrived,

Seeing the stretcher come out that's when I knew.

Trembling the whole way on the drive,

The Life Squad was there never too soon.

Strangers were leering from windows and streets,

As if to partake of something they cared.

Sirens blaring and flashing lights,

Mob now parting, a way prepared.

Heart pounding madness,

Face drenched in sweat.

Overcome with sadness,

They said your heart had quit ...

I'll never forget that day as you laid,

In my arms limp and lifeless.

The motorcycle brigade,

Memories remain, though tragic and senseless.

Nice! Very nice! I see you have a knack for storytelling, and you make it come alive with your vivid imagery. Great job!
