Pleasure

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 13, 2013

We treasure pleasure ,yet don't stare into the sun
to praise any star as if it were the only one
For gazing would make our eyes blind
and soon in silence we would find
a cause for us to seek the mirth
of the soft rays that fall to earth
to ripen the fruit of a plentiful vine
of grapes harvested to make our wine
that warms our hearts like the divine
delightful bread on which we dine.
Yet heaven is the greatest measure
of a place of an eternal pleasure

This is beautiful. The pursuit of pleasure is like a blinding light, and it can be that shiny object that distracts us. But counterfeit joy will compare to the real thing.
