Q&A With A Skeptic

by Rusheena   Jan 14, 2013

Skeptic: I don't believe that Jesus existed, and I don't think you'll change my mind.
You see, I've read the Bible, too, and there was no real evidence to find.
You say you have proof that he's real and still lives
that he still saves lives because he redeems and forgives.
I have yet to see any change in my own; therefore, I don't agree.
So, I'd like you to answer some questions, about the man you claim to see.

Q: Why do people claim to know
a man that died "2,000 years ago";
what evidence in history
do they have to back such malarkey?

A: Well, his life was documented by several, famous historians,
like Flavius Josephus and Tacitus to 4th century theologians.
Jesus was born between 6 and 4 B.C., before the Common Era,
He died one year before Caligula's birth but predicted his reign of terror.
There's also physical evidence, l supported the biblical flood,
but to answer your first question, our belief is in the blood.
While not a drop remains, we know it was shed to save our souls
from our own sinful ways that will lead us to hell, when we pay our tolls.

Q: There may be real evidence, but Jesus has never saved mine.
Honestly, I choose not to believe because my life seems to be just fine.
We all have our problems, but what can a dead guy do,
and why hasn't he saved all of us, instead of so-called Christians like you?
People always say they've seen him, but I haven't seen him yet.
I don't understand how you can defend someone that you've never even met.

A: Well, you've never met Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, or Galileo.
But they've left their mark on society. Wouldn't you say so?
Think about it this way, Jesus left heaven to become a sacrifice.
Without his death and resurrection, being a good person, could never suffice.
So from that day on, his selflessness paved the way
for sinners, like you and me to be saved from hell one day.
He's changed lives all over the world, but not everyone will accept it.
People close their hearts so tight that hardly any love can fit.

Q: That all sounds very simple, but forgive me for being a skeptic.
It's harder than you think, to change the mind of an analytic.
So, if all of what you said doesn't happen in one day,
how will I know that Jesus has spoken to me, in some way?

A: But that's the beauty of faith; it defies logic, space, and time.
Jesus sees us, no matter what, because his love is so sublime.
While scientists depend on theories and tests, his love is guaranteed,
but regardless if the tests pass or fail, he will always be what we need.
Many can be mistaken, but once you meet him, you'll be sure.
Even if it's only once, the effects can endure.

Skeptic: I was expecting a debate, but your argument is intriguing.
I don't know what the future holds for me, but I can try to find the meaning.
Maybe Jesus can make me a believer; maybe I can learn to be "alert".
I don't know if it will happen, but I guess trying could never hurt.

Love it, love it, love it. If there is anything I wish I could do is change a skeptic into a believer from simply reading my poetry. I love poems based on religen, and poems about existence and Christ. This poem was very injoyable to read. I dug that it ryhmed too. 100/100

Thanks! It was originally for a challenge, and it was VERY hard for me to keep rhyming throughout the poem. That hasn't happened for me yet, but I'm remaining optimistic. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
