Snowflakes

by Nil   Jan 15, 2013

Peering out a clouded window
Into the frosty night
The dew dances along the glass
Forming crystalline lines

A sigh escapes my lips
My breath leaving traces
Something else begins
To fog up my glasses

The snow shimmers and bows
Prisoner to the wind
Unable to fight it
Helplessly giving in

Memories begin to emerge
Of the first kiss they shared
The weather making the scenery
Of that moment so rare

As their eyes met
Then lips that night
Now though the flame
That kept them warm

Lies dormant in the cold
Something wet lands on my hand
Starling me out of my thoughts
Staring out the window

The snowflakes coo softly
Seeming to understand my plight
The porch light on just in case
He comes home tonight

I wait wrapped in
The sweater he hates
Hot cocoa and
The comfort of a blanket

Petting my loyal friend
Contently resting by my side
Something inside me aches
And I don't know what to think

Part of me wants to believe
I'm worth coming home to
But the lack of his arms around me
Suggests otherwise...
