Battle 'Tween Mind And Heart

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 16, 2013

A thousand dynamites explode
through the thunderous air
in the stormy sky
of my disagreeing thoughts.

Ashes fall like raindrops
as my hope is extinguished
by the protective foam
which guards my heart from burning.

My mind is an electric fence
made of barbed wire and
flammable electricity
when it detects a hint of danger.

My heart is an open heaven
made of gentleness and warmth
to invite you in with kindness
and offer you its love.

Lessons learned by past mistakes
made these enemies go to war;
forever unable to join together
without a massacre following after.

The battle 'tween the mind and heart
exchanges weapons beyond compare.
Confusion contradicts the clouds
causing lightning to strike down.

The mind is such a powerful tool
when it controls the weakened heart.
The heart surrenders and declares defeat
and offers victory to its relentless opponent.

This reminds me of Bens old poem "Storms of heart and mind"....and I also wrote a similar poem once...found it ironic that three poets wrote on this topic, but thats what makes this poem so relatable....We all have battled the storm between the heart and mind....they are two very different things and always tell us the opposite things to do, we never know which to follow...

I love the details here, I love the topic, because again, its something we ALL go through..I feel perhaps maybe writers go through it a little more..because we write from the heart, yet think from our mind..where as a lot of people don't even differentiate the two.

    Well done doll!
