The Scroll

by Andrew Packard   Jan 22, 2013

Predestined,
Molded in the womb.
Divinely Chosen,
To enter this gloom.

Forgotten Past,
Lifeless Purpose.
Years Turning Fast,
Eyes Directionless.

News spread,
Around the World.
Among the dead,
A scroll was found.

Souls gathered, bodies flocked,
Mouths open, peeking through.
Precious wax unpacked,
Paper tell us what to do.

Silence mounted,
But Hearts sank.
Belief Disappointed,
The Scroll was Blank ....

Ironically this poem is somewhat sacrilegious. The Scroll is a scripture, whichever one fill in the blank. By it being Blank its somewhat worthless, no power, impotent if you will. But that's the magic of it! As in existentialism (Ayn Rand, Soren Kierkegaard) existence precedes essence. That is to say we must find our own way, carry our own cross, write our own book ....

I love how tight this is, you also build the drama just right and the end was good,

    the authors notes help tremendously.
Like the rhyming scheme, helps pace this nicely and every word works here and compliments each other very well.

    cleverly and professionally written.

This piece is so interesting! First, I love the rhymes, and ask anyone who knows me, I usually hate rhymes..but this had a nice little ring to it, my eyes bounced from line to line...

Second....Here are my thoughts on this. We must find our own way (with trust in Him to get us there), we must carry our own cross (and follow Him daily), we must write our own book (according to His purpose for us)....thats how I live my life anyways lol.

I really really enjoyed the story in this piece Andrew. Very interesting, you kept it simple and easy for your readers to understand. Well done.
