All will fall... today

by Masked metaphor   Jan 23, 2013

She walks as a lamb led to the slaughter,
on the lonely roads of the deathly gallows.

Her destination reaching its end,
as tear drops scream the emotions her vocal cords fail to contend.

Her last hours draw near,
blood curdling inside her tears,
begging to be released without fear.

The blood smeared writings on the wall,
All confirm,
that all will fall...
Today!

Pain stings,
through damaged blinded eyes.
Rage igniting fires
Within the hatred consummated lies.

Her thoughts plunge at her vulnerable mind,
like a million sharpened swords stabbing her flesh to decline.
Yet she remains alive...
To strive...
For what purpose in life?

Her sentence to death,
behind the mask of betrayal.
To whom lies beneath,
a forbidden tale.

It is neither friend nor foe,
who organised this slaughtered woe.
But
one from beneath the ashes...
Who has turned from warm to cold.

As she is bound hands and feet by rope,
looking into the depth of the merciless eyes of her executioner,
While her neck is being neck laced by chains of no hope...
She begins to smile,
for she knows that all will fall,
but to what end?

Death doesn't stop the traps she has set,
She will never be freed from the deceptions of her own knitted nets.
Yet she welcomes the ropes and chains to constrict her breath,
Jumping acceptingly to her end...

The last words fleeing from her bruised battered lips,
an antidote,
revealing the executioner hidden behind the mask of fibs.
"I am my own worst enemy until my last droplet of blood spills"

And with the falling of her body among the life taking ropes and chains
Only the ghosts are present to acknowledge that
All has fallen
Today...

    This deserves to be nominated.

What a piece of work you completed here. Surely it is one of your most deepest and darkest poems with so much emotion.

I will tell you now the story you have laid out upon these lines is something that many can relate too. There are so many of us who are our own worst enemy.. I sure can relate to that. I'm not sure who you are speaking of Andrew but wow. It is so relate able being ones own executioner.

From the first stanza to the last you drew me in feeling and playing this journey of this girl in my head with such detailed imagery.. It gave me an aching within my heart and gut to see the struggle and strife and how she welcomes the death because life is such a wreck.

In a way it reminds me of the story of Anne Boylen and how she was treated toward the end of her life. This is such a powerful and magically dark work of art, loved every minute of it and was so easily able to feel her feelings of sadness, emptiness, and hopelessness.

We are always our own worst enemy, but with the help from the ones who love us we're able to rise above the struggles of life and make things better and right within ourselves and others..
    5/5!

I absolutely love this! The imagery is amazing, I felt like I was right there ... watching her be brought to her death. I kind of feel like this has a 'witch trials' feel to it.

Wonderful, dark story with a great rhyme scheme!

I absolutely adored this poem! Dark but very readable, as if I was standing there watching her death be handed to her... Very well penned, I am convinced that this is one of the best I've read on this site.

    Incredible write!

I feel completely blown away by this poem...I tell you, its not often that I nominate dark poetry, in fact, Im not sure if I ever have!....but I will be nominating this..

The story, the rhyme, it sucked me right in and I felt like I was almost panicing the whole way through reading..A poem the sparks emotion is a poem worth a win to me, and this had me feeling all sorts of anxious..

    Perfectly penned!
