No Electrolyte

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 24, 2013

It pierces your heart
like razor sharp daggers
when you love someone
who doesn't love you back.

Your world becomes empty
and you begin to feel alone.
You change yourself in hope
to gain their love, but instead
you only gain their rejection.

You give so much out
that it drains your energy,
turning you into a weak battery
with no electrolyte to maintain power.

You try to love them
with all of your heart
but you get nothing in return.
Your heart beat becomes a fading whimper
as it searches for stronger painkillers.

But all it finds is razor sharp daggers
piercing right through its delicate centre.

It seems impossible
for your heart to survive
when you love someone
who will never love you back.

For me this is a decent read, with good lines and a topic that a lot of people could relate to. The only thing I want to point out, negatively, is that one can get the feeling that the whole sense "of being rejected" can get a bit repetetive through-out the poem and instead one could get a touch more creative. But, other than that, great work!
