In the Garden

by Larry Chamberlin   Jan 26, 2013

The moon rises over a garden
filled with squash and pumpkins;
dewy droplets glisten, vibrating
seemingly, as the moon rises higher.

A scarecrow mounted on a stake,
broom in his outstretched hand,
guards the patch from crows,
casts a shadow eerily menacing.

This fall vignette evokes reverie
on the sacred and the real
as the shear wonderment of being
here, now, silences ages of doubt.

    Larry - this poem was so intriguing. I was really happy you participated in this contest and I love what you came up with! When I read the title I wasn't sure what to expect from the poem, and I like how it wasn't obvious.

    I love the imagery and metaphors throughout this poem. They really helped me envision your poem. I love the poem from start to finish. I'm proud that this poem was conceived from a contest I hosted!! ;)

    Well done! And congratulations <3
