Phoenix Rising

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 3, 2013

Phoenix rising in the air
inside a wooden box,
hands placed gentle upon the edges
as they lower it into the ground.

Phoenix drowning beneath the soil
in waves of crashing tears
as all the pain of yesterdays
were kept buried beneath its wings.

Tearful whispers say their goodbyes
as disbelief fills their hearts.
Such a beautiful bird with wings so strong,
how could it possibly be gone?

Phoenix of hidden secrets,
resting peacefully at last.
No one seen the embedded scars
the feathers were covering up.

Unseen damage which made its wings
too weak to ever fly.
Broken hearted but cast aside
because its appearance was believed.

So I titled this poem Phoenix Rising
because nothing is ever what it seems.
Sometimes something rising so high
can be falling apart inside...

..and left to drown alone inside their heart.

Saffie, There's something about this poem, that when I read it...I get lost, its a difficult thing to explain...I feel like the spirit being reborn is a symbol here but for what and whom I am unsure...I also feel that there is someone who keeps changing (I know I'm not making sense, just a bit confused with the direction this poem was meant to lead)

I like the ending the most, it flowed very smoothly there...not that it didn't throughout...just the ending had that little bit extra that really felt smooth...almost melancholic as well.

I think the repetition of Phoenix may have been over done a little but still an interesting write
