Domino Massacre

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 3, 2013

I am the second domino standing
in a straight row of certain disaster.
Everyone behind me relies on me
to remain steady on my feet and
to never let them be knocked down.
But I was fooled as the first domino
tripped me up and sent me tumbling down.
I created a chain reaction which caused
the destruction of a once solid line.
Lying defeated on the ground
all I can hear is the echoing slams
as everyone around me gets pulled under.
I can feel the dots of their eyes
gazing at me with blame for not
being strong enough to protect them.
I pondered about a suitable punishment
for being the one who destroyed the line
but for me there is nothing more painful
than having to look around me
and see the mess I have made.

I have caused a massacre of broken dominoes
and I now have to live with that for the rest
of my life as I make my bed on the ground.

This is just so creative!! I love the metaphor of the domino. I was wondering where you were going placing yourself as the second in the chain but, after reading it I can see why....you put your trust in the first domino and that was the one to let you down...angering you as you knew the effect it was going to have on the one's behind you....what an absolutely BRILLIANT thought....really adored this one.

I love this metaphor, but it's sad to read. I see a person with a heavy burden, who's pain causes a domino effect. Dominoes may not be able to pick themselves, but there's always a hand that's ready to pick up the pieces. Great write, Saffie :)

I love the creativity here...what a great way to express your feelings of being the one to cause pain and upset...
I look at this both ways that you shouldn't feel guilty and as if you made others fall because they fall by themselves...you may not have been able to stop yourself but they had the power to stop THEMselves...if that makes sense...
but I also see that when you fall, it hurts others because they care about you, you unintentionally hurt them and therefore feel guilt about it.

I felt this piece spoke so much and it really got me thinking but it was sad and made me reach out to you.

    Hugs...
Saffie, you are an amazing writer!!!
