The Leaning Tree

by Esther Thornburg   Feb 5, 2013

It was leaning out over the stream.
To grow to the light, it must lean.

Its roots were watered well.
Its trunk looked as though it fell.

What a story of comfort it holds.
In silence, in wisdom, left untold.

It was an afternoon place to put
Difficulties away and take another look.

Unload the thoughts, their heavy chunk
Setting on the thinking trees trunk.

A little time must pass
Difficulties just can not last.

There may be another way.
Move on through the day.

Just a change in the atmosphere
Can help the thoughts to clear.
