Bring America Back Home

by Poet on the Piano   Feb 8, 2013

Right now, I'm not being fashioned by statistics,
politically correct statements or any vivid references...
I am going by the battle we all are having in our hearts,
for haven't they been heavy for years now and we've
just been ignoring it?

We must choose to not be numb.

Our skin must not be afraid to push ahead,
our necks no longer hesitant but leaning forward,
eyes opened, brought by the hope of love.
We will never be blinded by what has used us
and what we have wasted ourselves on.

We will fight for morals, for the flowing blood
that courses through our veins, screaming
if God wills this, let it be done!

If the path towards freedom is rebellion,
we must trust each other.

I will not compromise my principles for fear
of mockery, unpopularity, or exile.

You can quote me on this- I have not read
the news everyday....I don't know our politician's
last statement pronounced but I do pay attention
and my heart feels the tension.

If there's one road we're being deceived onto,
it's a road of oppression.
Our brothers and sisters from the past desire
us to act, wisely, consciously, not out of bitter hatred
but out of true want for this country to live on.

No matter who you are, what religion, what
family you come from, what broken home taints you,
what differences we carve into our memories,
we must not let our hearts become ruled.

Can't you see it's too foolish to rely on government
for every type of safety? They can't be our foundation
of trust. Trust begins at home, within each other,
where God is alive, breathing truth into our sole being.

Our hearts will reach others but this president's power
cannot make our hearts turn toward what we
know isn't freedom.

Our lives are being targeted, and if we don't speak,
our very pulse could be detained.

I feel like this is one of my most honest poems, I know it's political but politics cannot be escaped or forgotten about. I can only pray for the courage to rebel against being forced to do things unconstitutional. I'm not going to rely on the government for hand-outs or anything more than what I can do myself and with the protection of the amendments.
