The Stranger

by Maple Tree   Feb 12, 2013

My heart is crushed, talking in riddles
to a strange woman on the other end
of the phone line labeling me terminal.

The sweetest words of touching comfort,
echoed in the ears of the hallway to
fearful tears waiting to drop.

It's another battle to climb in my
silent revelation, I'm a fighter of
past evil's, a crusader for peace.

Tonight I dive in the depths of
positive thinking, because the stranger
on the other end of the receiving darkness
held my hand today, I am not alone.

My heart is crushed, talking in riddles
to a strange woman on the other end
of the phone line labeling me terminal.

    - this is very powerful opening up the poem with a small scene like this which we can only imagine how hard it must be and I am sure we all think of those close to us who have ahd to be part of these phonecalls. i also like your choice of wording for labeling, I think it represents what we feel about these illness and how they seem to just be branded onto us like that is what we become or perhaps what others see.

The sweetest words of touching comfort,
echoed in the ears of the hallway to
    fearful tears waiting to drop.

    - I love this, it is good to know there was comfort there for you in this time, but also I love the line fearful tears, very powerful words together and shows what emotions were going through your head and we can imagine the thought process taking place with this fear. I also imagine the comfort being exadurated in how much it means and is also very much needed at that point.

It's another battle to climb in my
silent revelation, I'm a fighter of
past evil's, a crusader for peace.

    - I think this shows a little bit of you, and you insert a fraction of yourself and your own attitude, your own journey you have been on and how you have battled before and so will battle again and continue to seek peace.

Tonight I dive in the depths of
    positive thinking, because the stranger
on the other end of the receiving darkness
held my hand today, I am not alone.

    - your ending is very touching, it is good to see that you were able to do the positive thinking after the fear, also I love how these people in their jobs make such a big difference and most of the time this goes unnoticed and they do not ever realise how much they helped or were appreciated.

You are most definitely not alone. Ever. You are very strong and I love the attitude of this poem. Well done Maple Waple xxx

WOW! I love that it's still a bit cryptic, even though it's straightforward. The person on the other end seems like an enemy, at first, for delivery such terrible news but turns out to be a support system. It's sad, but not tragic because the speaker has hope. Great write, Andrea!
