Shame Clouded Eyes

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 17, 2013

The tears are pouring out tonight,
filling buckets with my pain.
I'm overwhelmed by guilty thoughts
and the shame that clouds my eyes.

Your voice is fading fast tonight,
it no longer belongs with me.
I let you down too many times,
you deserve so much better than me.

My heart is cracking loud tonight
with every breath I cannot breathe.
Falling into pieces of dusty remains
from a love that I thought could be.

But my tears keep pouring out tonight,
filling buckets with your love.
A love I thought I could deserve
until shame clouded over my eyes.

I love the repetition here, it really gives us a glimpse of the speaker's frame of mind. I like that you kept the "shame" ambiguous, so we don't know the source. It could be innocent, just her being hard on herself, or it could be a guilty conscience, something she's done that she hasn't forgiven herself for or something she's done to sabotage her new relationship. What a mystery! I'd love to read more of her story one day, if you're up for it.

It is hard to believe that you deserve love, especially after you've been hurt before, and I know that feeling all too well, you feel guilty for opening your heart and you feel guilty for letting someone in, because you know that either they'll hurt you, or you'll hurt them. Sometimes, someone loving you when you don't love yourself, makes you hurt more than no love at all...I know that.

Saffie, I love the repetition at the end and how you changed it, that because it's you that hurts, you'll hurt the ones that love you, unintentionally...sometimes you just need to trust yourself and those that love you.

You deserve the love...I believe we all deserve it, we do.

I can relate something, to which my mind makes it into the movies, pretty well done, somehow the statement is a predicament to a very sad feeling. Some bad things will also be gone, there's still sun to shine. good poems
